Calling Your Other Half: 22+ Halloween Costumes Made for You and Your Best Friend

Your favorite person makes dressing up twice as fun. These best friend Halloween costumes are full of ideas you’ll both be excited to wear.

Are you the friend sending costume ideas in August, or the one replying “yes” before the picture even loads?

I’m the sender. But I have enormous affection for the woman who agrees to wear something ridiculous with me and immediately asks what shoes we’re doing.

Putting together these best friend Halloween costumes made me want to text three people. Apparently, I’m going to need more than one Halloween plan.

There’s plenty here worth getting properly dressed up for, although the pastel ghosts with bows are making a very convincing argument for wearing a sheet.

Some pairs are practically twins. Others clearly have very different closets, which makes choosing your half even more fun.

How Much Do You Want to Match?

I’d choose this before getting attached to a particular costume. How much do you actually want to match?

Angel & Devil

I’d let my friend assign the roles. Apparently, the little red horns are already mine.

Red Riding Hood & The Wolf

You can keep the wolf cute here. The fluffy ears and tail work with a regular crop top, while the cape gives Red Riding Hood her storybook drama.

I’d leave the wolf makeup soft and let those oversized ears be the joke.

Black & White Clowns

The tiny bows on those stockings are almost too sweet for the sinister smiles. That’s exactly why I like them together.

Flapper Duo

Keep the long gloves even if you use different black dresses. They make the whole thing feel dressed up enough for those wonderfully excessive feather boas.

Pastel Sheet Ghosts

We’re apparently accessorizing in the afterlife. The sunglasses tucked under those enormous bows are so ridiculous that I’d happily sacrifice having my face in the photos.

Energizer Bunnies

Those drums are the joke. Keep the “Energizer” label visible so people get more than matching bunny costumes.

Peaky Blinders Duo

The flat caps do most of the work here, but the waistcoats and ties are what keep it from reading like a generic gangster costume. I’d keep those pieces sharp, then let the mini skirts make it yours.

Woodland Fairies

Leave your hair loose or pull it back enough to show the pointed ears. They give these green dresses a woodland feel even when the wings aren’t in view.

Skeleton Queen & Bride

The bride wearing sneakers is my favorite decision here. I’d happily do all that elaborate makeup if my feet got the easy assignment.

Black Swan & White Swan

That black eye makeup deserves the clear space around it. Keep the hair slicked back so the feathered shape can stretch toward the temples.

The white swan’s softer makeup makes the difference between the two even better.

Mia Before & After Her Makeover

Pre-makeover Mia gets my vote. I’d keep the unruly hair exactly as it is.

The Bride & Gogo Yubari

We’re going as sworn enemies, then taking every photo together. Very reasonable Halloween behavior.

The red bows make Gogo’s school uniform look deceptively sweet next to that yellow tracksuit. I’d keep them.

Pirate Duo

Tie a sash over the corset and let it hang past the hem. That uneven layer makes the white dress feel much more pirate than peasant.

Thor & Loki

The gold chains make these two feel like they got ready together, even with completely different costumes. I’d borrow that detail before worrying about matching every superhero accessory.

The sparkle on Thor’s skirt is a fun stand-in for all that armor, too.

Alice & The White Rabbit

A clock worn on a chain leaves your hands free for photos.

I’d let it hang low against the white skirt so Alice’s rabbit gets the full oversized-pocket-watch effect.

Deer Duo

I would absolutely use this as an excuse to spend Halloween in a fluffy jacket.

Glinda & Elphaba

Glinda’s pink Mary Janes with frilly socks are worth copying right down to the little bows. Let that sweetness carry through the shoes instead of stopping at the dress.

Elphaba gets to keep things much simpler in black.

Jessie & Bo Peep

Bo Peep looks ready for a tea party; Jessie looks ready to interrupt it. The gingham beside those cow-print chaps makes me laugh.

Patrick Bateman Duo

The clear raincoats turn office clothes into something deeply suspicious. Leave them open so those red ties show.

Bloodied Bride & Killer

That bloody handprint across the skirt tells a much better story than covering every inch in red.

Austin Powers & Dr. Evil

We need to discuss who’s willing to wear the bald cap before making any plans. I’m very happy to take the blue velvet and spend the evening annoying her.

Daphne & Velma

You can split Daphne’s purple into a top and skirt. The green scarf still makes the reference clear, leaving room to use separates you already own.

Velma’s orange socks are staying, obviously.

Polka-Dot Clown Duo

Those sweater dresses are almost cozy enough to make me forget the clowns. Then I notice the black lipstick again.

Prisoner Duo

Wearing the jumpsuit half down gives the tattoo sleeves room to show. It also lets you use the same orange as your friend without dressing identically.

Queen of Hearts & White Rabbit

The pocket watch is non-negotiable for the rabbit. It makes those giant ears feel intentional instead of just “bunny costume.”

And I love that the Queen gets the louder half. That playing-card corset does basically all the storytelling for you.

What I’d Buy First

I’d put the money toward whatever makes the costume recognizable, in this order:

1. The giveaway detail. Wings for the fairies, antlers for the deer. That’s what I’d secure first.
2. The missing clothing. Buy the piece your closet can’t cover, like Daphne’s purple skirt. I’d use my own shoes.
